A weekend in Kasauli

After stretching late for last few days in the office it was time for a much needed and relaxing break.  There is a very limited option which is at a drive of 5-6 hours from Delhi and can provide you with a calm and wintry environment and Kasauli is one of them.

Located in Himachal Pradesh, Kasauli is a small hill station on the way from Chandigarh to Shimla. It roughly takes two hours but for the first time, I really wanted that road doesn't end because the new expressway is nothing but awesome. And I must say its one of the must drive roads in India.  Till date, it's from Panchkula to Pinjore, but the construction to extend further is on.

After pinjore, when the expressway ends the road is a bit bumpy and gives an off-roading experience amidst the hills especially if you are behind the steering of a full grown SUV.

Best time to visit

The answer is anytime and whenever you want a peaceful and environment to rejuvenate it is the place where you can visit where the green hills hidden with white clouds will always welcome you.

Where to stay

There are various resorts and hotels available but the circuit houses are one of the good options which you can explore. Though there are stories that they are haunted, but you can still try if you have a brave heart.

Where to visit

Since its a small hill station, you can cover it whole in 3-4 hours. Some of the options are:

Christ Church

Monkey Point

It's a Hanuman temple which is located on the peak and has around 500 stairs before you are finally there.  Since it's within the army base, camera, phones or other digital equipment aren't allowed.

Mall Road

Kasauli doesn't have mall road as such but it has some good local food options near the main parking area where locals would be happy to serve you with hot Paranthas, Omelette and Maggi.

Sunset point
Its a point again near army camp where you can enjoy the scenic beauty and tranquility which this place is filled with.

Best Part:

I would say it the drive which includes both scenic expressways as well as the off-roading for the last 40 km stretch. Kasauli is one of the perfect destination to visit on any weekend and can be extended by combining it with Shimla or Chail which are 2 hours uphill.

Another best thing was the peace which it offers amidst clouds which I think Shimla or other major Indian hill stations for that matter miss due to the huge rush. Hence its a perfect getaway pack your bags this weekend and head straight north for this wonderful experience.
