Visiting Mumbai For a day? Here's The Best Things To Do

Mumbai in one day? Are you kidding? Yeah, you must be thinking that how can we cover one of the most densely populated cities in a day. You are right, but we can definitely touch upon some of the prominent architectural places, cafes, beaches and of course markets.

Mumbai is a crazy city. I’m still not sure whether I mean that in a good or a bad way, to be honest. The city has everything from luxury housing and beautiful colonial style architecture to slums and some of the most shocking poverty I have ever seen. One end you'll see posh bungalows and on the other, it houses one of India's greatest slums. One can easily spot big cars ranging from BMWs to Jaguar with fancy numbers making their way among rickshaw and kaali peeli taxi's. I was just amazed to see this shocking difference in the cultural diversities at some place.

Despite the chaos, we (me and my sister) enjoyed our one day in Mumbai. Our itinerary has a lot of stuff packed in just a day which you may customize as per your stay here.

Explore South Bombay (SOBO)

Visit the famous marine drive also known as the queen's necklace. It's actually the heart of the city with a beautiful skyline on one end and endless sea on the other. You can visit marine drive any time of the day and you'll find local Mumbaikars appreciating its beauty. But if you want to spot some of the film stars, early morning is the best when they are generally seen jogging. On the other hand, if you want to experience the city lights it's the evening time you should choose.

Travel tip: You can reach Marine drive by taking Local (Mumbai suburban train). Deboard at Chuch gate station.

Food tip: Do try Mumbai's local dish- Dabeli , just outside the Churchgate station.

Colaba is commonly known as SOBO which stands for South Bombay. Colaba is at the Southern tip of Bombay and much of the tourist attractions are here. We first checked out the Gateway of India which is the most popular tourist destination in Mumbai. Gateway is surrounded by sea on one side and the magnificent Taj palace hotel on the other.

Food tip: Do stop for famous butterscotch shake and plate of samosa just near the entry of gateway of India.

Next, we toured around the Causeway which is one of the most happening Mumbai street markets. If you are accompanied by a female,  this is the place to make them feel at home. While walking on the street it's not easy to just walk past the famous Leopold Cafe. Made famous by the book Shantaram, and world-famous during the 2008 bombings (you can still see bullet holes), tourists come in for their mid-day beer.

If you have more time, other popular things to do include the Bandra Bandstand, which gives you a view of the famous Bandra Worli sea link, secondly, markets are supposed to be particularly good such as- chor Bazar, which is famous for its antiques, moreover historic and architectural places such Elephanta caves, National gallery of modern art and prince wales museum are a good stopping point art enthusiasts etc. In short, Mumbai has something for everyone, and it's a city which will dwell you in its culture in no time.

My 1 day in M
umbai focussed on admiring the amazing architecture, experiencing the rush in the local train, sitting beside the sea on Marine drive and soaking up the chaotic but fascinating atmosphere of the Mumbai city.

P.S-:

Some Good cafes for your taste buds:

1. Pizza by the bay, Marine Drive

2. Prithvi Cafe, Juhu
3. Joey's Pizza, DN Nagar
4. Hoppipola, Powai
5. Colaba Social
